Ear Infections and Homeopathy

New evidence that homeopathic treatment for ear infections is superior to both conventional antibiotic treatment and placebo.

This finding comes from a recent Meta Analysis of studies published in JAMA. It compares treatment with antibiotics, with no treatment, and homeopathic treatment. Interestingly, even 'no treatment' proved to be better than antibiotics!

Scientists who published a study in 1997 in the International Journal of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics found that the homeopathic treatment group recovered an average of a day faster than the antibiotic-using group.

In another study published in 2001 in the British Homeopathic Journal compared homeopathic treatment to placebo treatment in 230 children with acute ear infections. After 12 hours, 72% of the children recovered 2.4 times faster than those children who received placebo.

The three remedies often used in homeopathy for ear infections, Belladonna, Pulsatilla and Hepar Sulph are mentioned in the article, and whilst using these remedies is safe, ear infections can be complex, and if the best indicated of these remedies do not work, consulting with a registered homeopath is advisable.
